Speaker at Roswell New Mexico Library

Posted on May 15, 2009

I want to thank the Friends of the Roswell New Mexico Library for inviting me to speak regarding my book, Beware the Wolves: A Soviet WWII Love Story.  I am always please to travel to New Mexico from my home in Pueblo, CO.  I lived in New Mexico many years ago where I went to the University of New Mexico School of Law and worked as an Assistant Attorney General in Santa Fe, NM.

Speaking Engagement - Roswell, NMMy reception was very warm.  My name was on the marquee, posters were distributed in stores such as Starbucks and Walmart, and a large gift basket waited in our Holiday Inn room.  My speech covered my book, based on the true story of my parents.  They came from Vitebsk, Belarus.  My father, a prisoner of war, was encamped by the German Army in Baranovichi, west of Minsk, Belarus.  I presented statistics concerning World War 2 such as the amount of troops used in the Barbarosa invasion of the Soviet Union, the number of aircraft, number of tanks and a description of the war armaments.

Our Trip Down to Roswell from Colorado

My wife and I were lucky that the weather down I25 from Pueblo to Roswell was fantastic.  We have a tradition when we travel that my wife has to have a Buster Bar at a Dairy Queen.  So we stopped at Raton, New Mexico and had ice cream.  Lunch was in the historic town of Las Vegas, New Mexio (the original Las Vegas).  It was here that General Kearny stood on the balcony of the old town plaza and declared this territory for the United States in 1848.  Prior to that it belonged to Mexico.  Before that it was territory of Spain.  We stayed the night in Santa Rosa, NM.  It is a pleasant town on I40 with several lakes surrounding.  There are many artesian wells and one notable lake is call Blue Hole where scuba divers from all over the United States come to be certified since the hole is 85 feet deep.  From Santa Rosa we traveled two hours to Roswell where I gave my presentation.  After my Speech, we were invited to our friends home for a wine and cheese party.  It was well attended, and all enjoyed the spectacular back yard shaded by large trees.  The wine and cheese was excellent.

Roswell Daily Record Article About My Speech

The Roswell newspaper sent a reporter and a photgrapher to cover my speech.  I was happy to see an excellent article about my speech on the front page of the Roswell Daily Record.  Roswell is my new favorite town!!  Thanks again to everyone for coming out and the warm reception I received.

Help me spread the word about Beware the Wolves! Thanks!
